Sewer Lines - Definition and
District Main A wastewater collection
line owned and maintained by the District that receives
wastewater from more than one sewer connection. District
Mains are typically 8 diameter pipe or larger and reside in
a public roadway or easement granted to the District.
Private Main A wastewater collection line
owned and maintained by a private party that receives
wastewater from more than one connection. Private Mains are
typically located in private roadways, apartment or
condominium complexes, or commercial centers. There are no
easements granted to the District for Private Mains. A
Private Main may be owned and maintained by a property
owners association or agreement between private parties.
Service Lateral A Service Lateral (also
referred to as a Sewer Lateral) is a pipe that connects a
residence or building to a District Main or a Private Main.
Service Laterals are typically 4 to 8 in diameter. All
portions of a Service Lateral are owned and maintained by
the owner of the residence or building served by the Service
Lateral, including portions lying within a public roadway or
easement granted to the District.
